A bit about us....

Blue Pelican has been around for 17 years. Founded by 3 partners on the basis of ‘recruitment done better’.  Since then we’ve grown and evolved, driven by the changing face of recruitment and that of the dynamic markets we’re established within.

We now have 5 specialist divisions (Legal, Marketing, Pharmaceutical, Public Sector, Technology), each headed by Managing Consultants who report to the Board.

At our core are our people, some who have been with us for 10+ years, and have helped shape our vision, strategy and culture. Each highly knowledgeable in their specialist areas and know what it means to offer a ‘professional consultancy service’.

We do all of this in a friendly and informal environment with a culture that is based on honesty, openness, communication and teamwork – with a little bit of banter and fun too.

What the staff say

"When I joined Blue Pelican, I had just moved to the UK and left my family and friends back home in Australia. About You

You love the chase and the thrill of the hunt.

You’re charismatic, a real people person, and see strangers as friends you just haven’t met yet.

You’re not afraid to put yourself out there, and just because someone has a fancy title, it doesn’t stop you picking up the phone and speaking with them like a peer.

You’re a growth machine and are never happier than when you’re chasing down targets and objectives.

You’re also smart and savvy. You know a how to shape a good deal and can spot the win-win in often complex negotiations with lots of potentially moving parts.

You also know a bit about data too – perhaps you’ve recruited a fair bit in your time and know your analytics from your data science, data management from data engineering and what AI, NLP, ML, GCP, AWS and Azure is all about.

You want the glory, but also recognise the value of being a team player in how the sum of its parts can become greater than the whole, and can lead, inspire and grow a team of your own.

So if this accurately describes you, what’s this role all about?

THE ROLE

Our data recruitment unit has always been one of our most successful. It’s been around since the company’s inception some 20 years ago and has a significant client roster because of it.

We’ve recently restructured how this team operates and are evolving the roles within it to become more 180 aligned.

You’ll be leading a team who principally deliver to client requirements and will be responsible for defining its strategy for growth, feeding into the Head of Marketing who you’ll be reporting into.

Your role is all about growth, and eventually will likely move to be really focused on new business opportunities. Be them from growing value from existing clients, or looking at new opportunities with firms we don’t currently work with.

You’ll also be taking lead on client engagement, and be the escalation point in team for anything complicated or outside of your team’s comfort zones.

You’ll have latitude to drop into delivery if you want to. Perhaps you land a particularly meaty CDO role and really want to network with some business leaders for the opportunity to convert to new client prospects through the search – that will be up to you.

Ultimately the growth strategy, lead generation and funnel management of the team will be yours. The overall objective is to ensure your unit is achieving its commercial objectives and the team always have enough in their pipelines to exceed target.

The ambition is for your team to scale quickly in response to the ever-growing client demand you generate.

You will be pretty much sector agnostic and able to hunt down and convert business from almost any vertical market which has a demand for data talent, and there’s a lot out there.

But because we have such an upstanding reputation in this industry, and such a deep pool of outstanding data talent within our networks, opening doors in this space shouldn’t be difficult. So long as you take the right approach and are able to come across as credible with client prospects.

Sounds exciting, right?

Role: Resourcer, Data, Analytics & Data Science

Location: Tunbridge Wells office post pandemic – you’d likely only be coming here twice a week. The rest is work from home, and will be 100% remote for the time being

Salary: Up to £23,000 (DoE)

Benefits: 20 days annual leave rising to 25, placement and target bonuses, life assurance, workplace pension scheme, Employee Assistance Program, health insurance, healthcare cash plan

The job of a resourcer is to locate and engage the right talent for a vacancy, as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Whilst this sounds simple, it can be a challenge.

Imagine you’ve got 6 vacancies with the same deadline. Each needs a shortlist of 4 people. Those people need to be attracted or pro-actively engaged before the week is done.

Worst case, you could be looking for 24 different people, each with rare skills… across hundreds of millions of people to find them.

Then you’ve got other calls for catch ups, interview debriefs, offers to close plus a ton of other people to get back to with feedback.

So it’s fair to say this is a job juggling a lot of balls, constantly looking at solving problems, dealing with a product which at times can be irrational and unpredictable – as it’s people.

THE ROLE

You’ll be joining our team who look after all things Data recruitment related. Reporting into the team leader and supporting them with what is a high volume desk.

The kind of roles you’ll be supporting on require very specialist skills, and the talent in those areas are in incredibly high demand. So to be successful you’ve got to be credible. Great at networking and building relationships with people.

It’s a market which operates at real pace because of the level of demand. Which means you can expect quick turnarounds and deadlines on projects and a constant flow of new requirements given to you which need delivering to.

The team you’ll be joining is fronted by someone who’s got a very strong presence and status in the market, and is a trusted partner to a wide range of businesses. From high street and unicorn digital retailers and dot coms. Technology firms, data and analytics consultancies and some of the biggest names in global marketing, digital and data agencies.

In addition to the tasks outlined in the opening paragraphs, you’ll be networking with industry specialists. Building rapport and relationships in order to effectively build engagement. Looking to gain referrals and recommendations from these too.

Managing candidate experience end to end, ensuring everyone gets an appropriately high quality one. Delivered with upmost respect and professionalism.

There’s also some client facing aspects to the role too. Managing the recruitment process from CV submissions, chasing feedback, arranging interviews as well as offer and onboarding processes.

THE COMPANY

Blue Pelican has been around for 18 years. We survived the financial crisis of 2008, multiple recessions and we’re doing the same again, despite what can be perceived as challenging conditions.

How we’ve done this is a testament to our people and our Values.

Internally the team reshaped to work even more collaboratively, focussed on ensuring our clients hired the talent they needed with as little pain as possible

We created new services and advised on best practice for hiring in a newly on-line only capacity

We supported candidates with their job search, even if it wasn’t through us

In short, we worked tirelessly to create opportunity where it sometimes felt like there wasn’t any.

Just look at our YouTube channels for example.

What we’re experiencing now is a dramatic upturn in demand, brought on through a mix of new client wins and a return to hiring for some of our largest loyal clients. So we’re coming out of this stronger than ever, and this is why we need your help.

KEY EXPERIENCE

Ideally we are looking for someone with experience of working as a resourcer before. If you’ve got this, you already know what skills you need to demonstrate.

However, we will also consider relevant transferable skills.

There’s a few common traits of good resourcers, and it’s these:

-          Gregarious characters, happy to pick up the phone and chat with people

-          Good research skills. But also don’t bog themselves down in data. They’re quick to spot what they need then reach out to those people to engage

-          Bright and switched on. Able to understand the complexities of people and their skills. Looking beyond technical limitations and can see how they could adapt to a client’s need successfully

-          Brilliant time management skills – especially with multiple deadline juggling

-          Able to react at pace to things which need quick turnarounds

-          Very organised – plate spinning is something of a speciality

-          Great EQ – able to puts the candidate and client needs first

-          Real team player – recognises the part they play in helping the team become more than the sum of its parts

-          But is also commercially savvy enough to know when they might be pushing a dead horse

If you’re an experienced hand and looking to command the higher end of the salary spectrum on offer – in support of your application, why don’t you email me and tell me the following:

a)       Who’s this role reporting into?

b)      How can Amazon.co.uk help you successfully resource talent for a role in the Data Science field?

Role: Recruitment Consultant – Life Sciences

Location: Tunbridge Wells / from home as required

Salary: Up to £27,000 basic (dependant on experience)

Uncapped commission with no desk fee. Commission structure tiered up to 20% of invoicing

Opportunity:

If you are an experienced Life Sciences Recruiter with demonstrable experience consistently billing whilst providing a fantastic customer experience to both candidates and clients, Blue Pelican could be just the opportunity you are looking for.

About us:

Blue Pelican has been around since 2001 and was founded by 3 partners on the basis of ‘recruitment done better’.  Since then we’ve grown and evolved, driven by the changing face of recruitment and that of the dynamic markets we’re established within. Never has that agility been more tested than in 2020, and we’re proud to have supported both our staff and our customers through these turbulent times.

At our core are our people, some who have been with us for 10+ years, and have helped shape our vision, strategy and culture. Each is highly knowledgeable in their specialist areas and knows what it means to offer a ‘professional consultancy service’.

We punch well above our weight for a firm in Tunbridge Wells, enjoying preferred (and sometimes sole) supplier status to a good number of the UK and Europe’s biggest brand names and employers.

We do all of this in a friendly and informal environment with a culture that is based on honesty, openness, communication and teamwork. Of course that’s predominantly remotely right now but we still work hard to come together online regularly and support each other.

The role:

We’re looking to add to our Pharmaceutical division with a full 360 Recruiter working alongside a highly motivated and well respected team with a real passion for their sector. We’re open to what specialist niche you might like to focus on, and will want you to support recruitment for multinational clients in a wide range of roles up to VP/C-Suite within that space. You will also be able to plan the expansion of your market including working with existing clients and candidates who know and trust Blue Pelican.

We’re looking for someone to work highly autonomously as part of a very tight knit and supportive team.

The team:

Our Pharma Division has been at the heart of Blue Pelican since it’s inception. We take a strategic approach to the development of our client base and enjoy a number of long term deep client relationships. Our clients range from top 5 global pharma to tiny, niche start-ups.

About you:

The role would suit someone with previous experience in a 360-recruitment role within life sciences. To succeed as a Pelican you’ll need:

  • A customer service focus and ‘consultative approach’
  • Outstanding listening skills
  • Confident relationship management skills
  • A commercial mindset with the ability to identify and capitalise on business opportunities globally, offering both permanent and contract recruitment services to the market
  • Proven experience in negotiation and influencing people
  • To be target driven with a real will to succeed
  • A proven ability to learn and retain complex information
  • Strong prioritisation & time management skills
  • High level verbal and written communication skills
  • Good IT literacy, specifically with Word and Outlook

Benefits:

  • Starting at 20 days holiday plus bank holidays - get +1 extra per calendar year to a max of 25
  • Additional leave for Christmas
  • Private Health Insurance
  • Health Shield cash back and discount scheme (includes allowances for sports massages, acupuncture, dental and lots more)
  • 4x Death in Service
  • Corporate Social Responsibility day per year – use it to do something good for the community or for something that’s close to your heart
  • Support for charity work
  • Training plan tailored to develop your skills and capabilities
  • Defined and achievable career progression plan
